June Steenkamp doesn’t want Oscar released

After speculations that Oscar Pistorius could be released from prison in a few months, Reeva Steenkamp's mother, however, does not want him released.

August is too early for convict Oscar Pistorius to be released on parole, the mother of his victim has been quoted as saying.

“I don’t think it’s a good idea to let him back in society so quickly. He shot my daughter through that door where she had no space to move or defend herself,” June Steenkamp told the media.

“One of the bullets blew her brains out, it is disgusting what he did to her… 10 months is just not enough.”

Pistorius is serving a five-year sentence in Kgosi Mampuru II prison after he was convicted of culpable homicide last year.

He killed his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, when fired four shots through a locked toilet door of Pretoria home in 2013. Pistorius’ defence was that he mistook her for an intruder.

His lawyer, Rohan Kruger, said on Monday he was hoping for the paralympian to be released on parole in August.

June said though she didn’t want the former athlete to suffer, he still needed to be punished.
