Several drug dealers have been arrested in Eersterust the past few weeks.
Police spokesperson Constable Sam Shibambo said on Friday Nantes residents contributed much to this success. They recently vowed to take hands with the police in the fight against drugs in the area.
“True to their word the residents informed us about many different drug dealings within the area,” he said.
He said police arrested two drugs dealers during the week after residents alerted the police to their activities.
“Several drug dealers were also arrested for the possession of drugs. At a community meeting on Wednesday the residents strengthened their commitment to this cause,” Shibambo said.
“They vowed to expose and shame the drug dealers operating in their midst. Several hours after the meeting, a 34-year-old man was arrested for dealing in drugs at Tafelberg Street only a few metres from where the meeting was held.”
Shibambo said the man was caught with ten packets of drugs believed to be CAT and would appear in court soon.
He thanked the residents of Nantes for their effort in taking the streets back.
