Intersection a danger without robots
Community worried more accidents will occur at intersection entering Atteridgeville with robots not working.
The entrance into Atteridgeville from Maunde Road has turned into a dangerous spot, residents complained this week.
They said the traffic lights at the intersection of Quagga and Maunde roads were out of order, leading to a string of accidents at the crossing.
SA National Civics Organisation chairperson, Nagesh Chetty said a contractor recently installed new traffic lights, but left them not functioning.
“The contractor was contracted to repair the traffic lights. He took the old ones out and replaced them with new ones that are now not working. He has been gone for three weeks with no response to the problem. It is a major problem with traffic at the intersection, without working lights,” said Chetty.
“I would say about 65% of motorists do not stop at the intersection to give each other a chance. The lights not working is a risk for children and all the people using those roads. People from Atteridgeville, Soshanguve, Pretoria CBD, Centurion, Laudium and other areas use those roads every day.”
Percy Mokoena, who owns a food business near the intersection, said he had seen many accidents taking place there.
Residents call upon the Tshwane metro to get the traffic lights working again, before more accidents occur and people lose their lives.
Comment by the metro on the matter is being awaited.
