Wespark SPAR robbed
Wespark SPAR and customers robbed at gunpoint on Sunday evening.
The Wespark SPAR supermarket was robbed on Sunday evening.
Two armed men walked into the store around 18:15 and pointed firearms at customers, said Area Patrol Unit chairman Barries Badenhorst.
“The men then took the shoppers to the back where the soft drink fridges are located. They stripped customers of their cellphones and jewellery.”
Badenhorst said the men also cleaned out two tills and took cigarettes while two accomplices kept watch outside.
The four fled in a silver Volkswagen Polo.
“We are unsure if there was another man in the hatchback they fled in,” Badenhorst said.
The men were believed to be the same ones who robbed a Danville Usave on Saturday evening.
One of the men who robbed the SPAR might have been identified as a member of the group involved in the Danville robbery, said Badenhorst.
The Wespark SPAR’s store manager, Shaberr Shaik, said: “Police are still investigating. At this point I am unsure what transpired because I was not at the store when the robbery took place. We are still waiting for clear information from the police.”
Badenhorst said three shots were fired inside the store during the robbery. Customers were rattled and children were crying by the time the robbers left. No one was hurt.
Another source said the men also fired four shots as they were driving away.
Police confirmation could not be obtained immediately.
