Man held after tractor theft
Three men in a car flagged down the heavy-duty truck transporting the tractor.
A man accused of stealing a loader tractor from an abnormal transporting service truck has been arrested, police said on Tuesday.
Spokesperson Warrant Officer Hero Gumbu said two other men were still on the run. The first man was arrested in Etwatwa in Benoni.
The crime was committed between the R21 and the N1 on Friday.
Gumbu said three men in a car flagged down the heavy-duty truck transporting the tractor. They did so by indicating to the driver that something was amiss with his vehicle and he stopped.
The driver and his passenger were tied up and their heads covered before they were bundled into the car of the robbers.
The three men removed the tractor from the truck and sped off, leaving the truck behind.
The owner of the trucking service alerted the police.
Investigations led police to Etwatwa in Benoni, where the man was arrested by the Etwatwa police and transferred to the Lyttelton police station.
Police believed the other two men were from Daveyton in Ekhurhuleni, Gumbu said.
