Burnt body identified as raped woman

A burnt body found in Wierdabrug last week was identified as that of a woman who was raped and strangled.

A burnt body found in Wierdabrug last week was that of a woman who was raped and stabbed before being set alight.

This was revealed by the police autopsy, spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe said on Thursday. She said the woman had since been identified by her family.

She was found last Tuesday behind a food outlet on the corner of Cottie and Louisa avenues, lying on her right side with burn wounds all over her body.

“A rape and murder docket has been opened and our investigation into the matter will continue,” Selepe said.
