A Hammanskraal man accused of mutilating his wife’s genitals with a knife appeared in the Moretele Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

Phuti Malema (34) faced a charge of attempted murder, said police spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi.

He apparently attacked his 30-year-old wife after accusing her of cheating on him.

“Malema allegedly attacked her in front of two kids in their house at Hans Kekana in Hammanskraal,” said Moremi.

“When the police arrived, she was lying on the floor in a pool of blood and was taken to a hospital.”

The victim was not in court on Thursday.

Judge Eddie Humphreys postponed the trial to Tuesday next week, Moremi said.
