The Mamelodi East police arrested a local soccer coach for raping a 14-year-old boy on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old suspect was arrested for unlawfully and intentionally committing an act of sexual penetration to a minor.
It is alleged that the suspect allegedly raped a 14-year-old boy on June 29.
According to the Mamelodi East police spokesperson, Warrant Officer, Michael Mbewe the suspect was arrested after a 14-year-old, reported that he was painfully sodomised by a local soccer team coach, whom he met for the first time during enlistment at one of the Mamelodi East local sports ground.
The victim alleged that he went to a local sports ground for enlistment to play soccer; on arrival he approached the soccer coach responsible for a team. The suspect then requested the youngster to accompany him to his residential place for the soccer application forms.
“On arrival at the suspect’s residential place, the suspect instructed him to undress, strangled him, then ordered him to lie on his stomach; the coach then undressed himself and forcefully penetrated him from behind,” said Mbewe.
It is alleged that the suspect raped him repeatedly for hours and later raped him again.
The suspect is held in custody for further investigation. He will appear in Mamelodi Court soon after being charged.
In another incident the police are concerned about an increase in robberies where suspects targets unsuspecting victims coming from the bank.
Recently, a woman was robbed of cash after making withdrawals at the bank in Mahube mall.
The suspects followed the victim to her destination and robbed her before using her money.
Communities are sensitized to be aware of this new modus operandi (method of operation).
