The ‘Goose’ has landed
A gastronomic food and wine experience featuring an outstanding selection of 'The Goose' wines expertly paired with six gourmet courses recently took place in the capital city.
An outstanding food and wine tasting evening was held at the distinguished Monte De Dios in Zwavelpoort just outside Pretoria on Fridayevening. The Goose wine range was expertly paired with six mouthwatering, gourmet courses.
Pieter Haasbroek, general manager of The Goose wine distillery, opened the evening with a brief history of the complex process that goes into the making of the different wines in the range.
Climate, location and packaging were among the key elements to creating a superb blended wine, he explained, adding that food pairing played an important role when it came to wine.
Specially selected wines were paired with a selection of platters: white wines with fish and red wines with steak.
The food-wine pairings were a true gastronomic experience.
It was the perfect romantic atmosphere, as the event took place outdoors on the patio, with guests conversing by candlelight under the moon.
The Goose Wines, named after renowned professional golfer Retief Goosen, affectionately referred to as ‘the goose’, has won awards globally.
They are handcrafted in the high altitude vineyards of the northern slopes of the Outeniqua Mountains in the heart of the famous Garden Route.
Opera singer Charl Oberholzer entertained the guests with a spectacular classical music compilation.
All in all, it was a wonderful night of food, wine and music with people gathered in unity to a tale told by a ‘Goose’.
