Elderly woman’s alleged murderer arrested
Police have arrested a man on Monday after an elderly woman was killed in Wonderboom.
A young man was arrested in Pretoria north on Monday afternoon after an elderly woman was stabbed to death and her son wounded in Wonderboom.
Sinoville police spokesperson Mirna Von Benecke said the 32-year-old man was caught in Nina Park.
“He was found by two Sinoville police officers at a gambling place. He is being held at the Pretoria north police station and will appear in court possibly on Wednesday,” she told Rekord.
Von Benecke said the man broke into a house in Apiesdoring Avenue earlier in the day around 05:30. The house belonged to his employers.
“He attacked a man and his mother. The woman, who was in her 60s, was stabbed and she died on the scene.”
Von Benecke said her son, in his 40s, also suffered stab wounds and was taken to the hospital after he alerted police.
“The suspect fled with a cellphone,” she said.
Von Benecke said the intruder apparently also broke into their business a few kilometres from the murder scene.
“He entered the safe and fled with an undisclosed amount of money. We cannot confirm whether this happened before or after the attack.”
He faces charges of murder, robbery and business breaking.
