Township robber nabbed

A 32-year-old man linked to a spate of armed and house robberies around Winterveldt, Soshanguve and Mabopane has been arrested.

A 32-year-old man linked to a spate of armed and house robberies around Winterveldt, Soshanguve and Mabopane has been arrested in Dube Section, Mabopane. He was in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Police spokesperson, Constable Petunia Chabangu, said the suspect was arrested on Sunday, following an armed robbery that occurred at the Kgwatla stand in Winterveld on Saturday.

“A group of men belonging to the Kgwahla social club were at a get-together when four unknown men with firearms attacked them. The men were robbed of about R25 000 in cash. Community members contacted the police, who responded quickly,” she said.

Police managed to arrest one suspect, who was in possession of an unlicensed firearm with the serial number filed off.

“We have information that could possibly link the suspect to several other crimes, including armed and house robberies in and around Winterveldt,” said Chabangu.

“Some of the cases the suspect is involved in were reported at police stations across Soshanguve, Mabopane, Loate, Rietgat and Dube,” she said.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court soon.

Chabangu commended the Dube police, and thanked local residents for their continued cooperation with the police. Police are still searching for the other three suspects.
