Warning from US embassy in Pta
The U.S. embassy said its associates should be aware of their surroundings after it has received information that extremists were targeting its interests in the country.
The United States (US) embassy has issued a warning to associates in South Africa that terrorists may be targeting their interests in the country.
“The US Diplomatic Mission to South Africa has received information that extremists may be targeting US interests in South Africa, to possibly include US government facilities and other facilities identifiable with US business interests,” a statement from the embassy said.
There was no additional information that refers to timing or potential targeting, the embassy said.
Associates were warned to review their personal security plans and to be aware of their surroundings when attending local events.
“Monitor local news stations for updates and follow instructions from local authorities,” the embassy said.
“Be vigilant and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security.”
