Cassell’s alleged murderer in court

The 34-year-old Johan Visser and his girlfriend Anesia de Kok appeared in the Pretoria North court on Wednesday in connection with the murder of Anita Cassell in Wonderboom on Monday morning.

Visser is facing charges ranging from murder, assault, house and business robbery.

De Kok was charged with the possession of suspected stolen goods. It is believed the cash that Visser is accused of stealing from Cassell’s business, Panarotti’s in the Kolonnade shopping centre, was found in De Kok’s possession.

Sinoville police spokesperson Mirna von Benecke said that De Kok’s involvement was still being investigated.

De Kok was released on R2 000 bail on Wednesday.

Visser was refused bail and will remain in police custody until his next court appearance set for next Wednesday.

Visser was arrested on Monday following the murder of Cassell and the attack on her son, Dan, at their home in Wonderboom during the early hours of Monday. After the murder, Visser allegedly robbed the family’s restaurant of an undisclosed amount of money.

Dan managed to phone police and paramedics after the incident occurred. Cassell’s attacker fled with a cellphone.

It is believed that the Cassell family employed Visser as a waiter at their family-owned restaurant but had to let him go on account of his alleged drug addiction.
