Man assaulted during house robbery

A man’s life was saved by his wife who pressed the panic button in their home while he was being assaulted during a robbery.

The robbery took place at a smallholding in Akasia late on Friday evening.

Akasia police cluster spokesperson Captain Riaana van Aarde said the family was sitting in their dining room when three men burst into the house.

“One of the them had a firearm. The men then started assaulting the husband with an unknown object.”

Had it not been for the woman pressing the panic button, the whole family could have been hurt, said Van Aarde.

“When the alarm went off, the men fled the scene with two cellphones and the keys of the family’s vehicle,” said Van Aarde.

Best Care ambulance services spokesperson Xander Loubser said the man was taken to hospital.

“He luckily did not sustain serious injuries.”

Police were searching for the three men and urged anyone with information on the matter to come forward.

“We urge people to make sure that all their security doors are locked at all times,” Van Aarde said.
