Police officer kills his wife and child in Pretoria on Saturday evening.
Police officer shot dead his wife and daughter in Westview in Pretoria West on Saturday night.
Police central cluster spokesperson Captain Augustine Selepe said this happened around 23:00.
“A concerned neighbour heard gun shots, went to the house and found two bodies lying in a pool of blood,” she said.
Selepe said the 46-year-old police officer, a member of the police VIP Close Protection unit, was found inside the house.
“The neighbour called the police and paramedics. The wife and daughter were declared dead on the scene.”
Selepe said the officer was arrested and the police were in the process of notifying the next of kin about the shooting.
This is the second Pretoria police officer to kill his family in this week. On Monday, another officer shot dead his wife then himself in their house at the Pretoria West police college.
Sergeant Thamsanqa Tsolo (40) and his 39-year-old wife had two children — a 17-year-old boy and a five-year-old girl. They were not at home at the time.
Selepe said a neighbour heard a shot from the house around 09:00 on Monday morning.
“After hearing the gunshot, the woman was afraid to leave her house and called for someone to investigate. A captain at the college was alerted and went to the couple’s house.”
Selepe said the captain found two bodies on the floor of the living room.
SA National Civics Organisation (Sanco) chairman Nagesh Chetty bemoaned the killings.
“The minister of police needs to act and put a stop to the killing of family members by members of the police. We cannot keep on losing lives like this,” Chetty said.
