“Mother of porno” in court
A man and woman from Pretoria West were arrested two weeks ago when police received a tip-off accusing them of running a child pornography business.
Some know her as Pretoria’s mother of pornography – but facing a Pretoria magistrate in court on Monday morning she cast a different picture.
She did not look like a woman said to have made thousands of rands from the selling of explicit sex pictures featuring young girls.
“I want an Afrikaans-speaking legal counsellor,” the woman, dressed in a saggy, black sweat suit, told magistrate Bernard Swart. “My previous counsellor was English and I did not understand him,” she said in a soft voice.
Her co-accused, apparently a former sexual partner, stood far away from her, not giving her a glance.
Both face five charges of rape and the possession and distribution of child pornography.
More charges were expected to be added.
The man and woman, both in their early fifties, from Claremont in Pretoria West, were arrested two weeks ago when police received a tip-off accusing them of running a child pornography business.
The whistle-blower was apparently a former accomplice, who had turned State witness.
This woman, who is well-known in the community, allegedly ran an after-school centre and her victims were girls between the ages of 11 and 13.
The allegations are that the woman and the man started their business about eight months ago, lurking girls with extra pocket money to pose for explicit nude pictures.
The pictures were apparently sold to people in a network, who the police are currently investigating.
The matter was postponed to Wednesday.
