Cop killers’ case resumes
The trial of two men accused of killing a Winterveldt police officer, Constable Samuel Nkosi (33) resumed this week in the High Court in Hammanskraal.

The trial of two men accused of killing Winterveldt police officer Constable Samuel Nkosi (33) resumed this week in the Temba High Court in Hammanskraal.
The judge is expected to make a ruling as early as next week.
The trial of Thulani Julius Dibakwane (24) and Nhlanhla Fortunate Baloyi (24) was postponed in August for argument after one of the accused claimed he had not had a fair trial.
Police spokesperson Constable Petunia Chabangu said the accused claimed to have been assaulted after their arrest.
“The court heard the witnesses’ account today [Tuesday] before the court was adjourned to tomorrow [Wednesday].
It is expected that a few other witnesses will testify from tomorrow until Friday,” said Chabangu.
Constable Nkosi was shot seven times in the upper body in a tavern in Winterveldt on Monday 12 January.
He was off duty and unarmed at the time and was certified dead on arrival in hospital.
Chabangu said the first man was arrested the same day and the second one a few days later.
A firearm, with a serial number filed off, was found during the first arrest.
Police were later able to confirm the firearm was murder weapon.
The motive of the killing remains unclear.
