Court told of satanism, blood-drinking and bullying
Chilling new evidence has come to light in the Anika Smit inquest.
A young man, testifying in the murder inquest of Anika Smit in the Pretoria North magistrate’s court, has admitted to attending school parties at which guests drank blood.
The young man cannot be mentioned by name after the court ruled that none of the witnesses should be identified.
In court, he was referred to only by his social network name, Vampire.
He told the court he could not remember who had invited him to the Vampire themed party, but that when he was there guests were welcomed with shooters of blood.
“It could have been human blood,” he said, adding that he was not sure. “Some people were drawing blood with syringes.”
A surprised prosecutor Tania Carstens said if she were made to drink something that resembled blood, she would be concerned about HIV/Aids.
“So it was just, ‘welcome here’ and swallow?” she asked.
“Yes,” the young man replied, adding he was young and stupid then.
He denied being a member of any occult group, saying he hung around a group that was interested in the occult because it protected him from bullies.
He had told the court that he had been a victim of bullies to such an extent that he even moved to another school to escape them.
Vampire was asked about an exchange on social media chat application Mxit with someone who identified themselves as Satan Eyes.
In the exchange, Vampire seemed to be asking for a guide on how to kill someone by casting a spell on them.
He dismissed it as “I was just being young and stupid”.
Smit (17), who went to the same school as Vampire, was murdered in her Theresa Park home five years ago and her body laid out in a manner that suggested a ritualistic killing.
She had been sexually assaulted, her throat slit and her hands had been severed and removed from the scene.
