Police are looking for Thabo Mokoena (24) of Ext 3 Mhlaumbe, Winterveldt in connection with an armed robbery.

Spokesperson Constable Petunia Chabangu said police believed the man could assist them with information regarding the robbery at the old government building next to Odi Prison in Mabopane on Tuesday night.

Chabangu said two security guards were robbed by two armed men.

“The two armed men stormed into the building and held the guards at gunpoint,” said Chabangu.

They then robbed the guards of their personal belongings including cellphones, wallets, and money.

“They forced one of the guards to give them the PIN to her bankcard,” said Chabangu.

But through the police’s response, one of the men was arrested at an ATM at the Central City complex trying to make a withdrawal. The second man fled,” said Chabangu.

Chabangu said further investigations had linked one of the suspects to cases of rape, armed robbery, attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and assault.

“We appeal to the community to assist us with information about the whereabouts of Mokoena,” said Chabangu.

To give information, call the detectives Warrant Officer Buti Baloyi on 072 237-8968 or Detective Constable Thlalifi Hlahla on 073 743-4208.
