A Citizen newspaper photographer caught an attempted hijacking on camera when a woman was approached by two armed men in Johannesburg.
The event took place just outside the Marlboro Caltex as driver, Judy James, attempted to pull into the station.
“I noticed a guy, maybe fifteen metres away from me, had pulled a gun on a car wanting to come into the Caltex station,” Russell explains.
It was at this point that James exited her vehicle and engaged in a verbal altercation with the two hijackers.
“I told the people around me to ‘look over there’ as there was a hijacking going on. I tried catching the incident on camera, but I had a long lens on my camera and it couldn’t focus” Russell explains.
It is believed by those on the scene that the hijackers could not get the car in gear, so fled on foot with a cellphone and spare key.
“Eventually, I dropped my camera and ran back (due to the long lens) and managed to get some better shots,” Russell added.
No one was harmed in these events.
