Pistorius parole to be reviewed
The Correctional Supervision and Parole Board will decide on Friday the release of Oscar Pistorius under correctional supervision.
Oscar Pistorius will hear his fate on Friday as the Correctional Supervision and Parole Board (CSPB) will consider the legality of the athlete’s placement under correctional supervision.
This after correctional service Minister Michael Masutha suspended the decision to release Pistorius under correctional supervision on 21 August.
The decision was referred back to the board for a review, saying it was granted prematurely.
According to the Minister, in terms of the law, the parole board should have only considered Pistorius’ release after he served a sixth of his sentence.
The final ruling should be expected later on Friday on whether the decision was correct.
Pistorius could be released after serving 10 months of his five year sentence at the Kgosi Mampuru II prison.
The athlete was convicted of culpable homicide in September for shooting and killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013.
