Community puts out ‘arson’ fire
The community in Hercules helped put out a fire on Sunday after a business was apparently set alight.
Residents came together to put out a fire after a sand and stone business caught fire in Hercules on Sunday afternoon.
Hercules CPF spokesperson Conrad Naudé said tyres were apparently set alight on Hendricks and Moot streets around 15:15.
A portion of the business’s wendy house caught fire.
“People came to help extinguish the flames and the fire brigade also came to assist,” said Naudé.
He said the cause of the fire was unknown, however, there were speculations of arson by a former employee.
“Apparently an employee was laid off on Friday and he threatened to set the place alight. It is not yet confirmed if he was responsible for the fire. This is just a suspicion,” Naudé said.
No one was injured and no arrests were made.
