Two men were caught, shot and arrested after a man tracked his hijacked car using his iPhone cellphone.
This after a company car, a Nissan Sentra, was hijacked by the two men on President Brand Road in Rynfield, Benoni on Saturday evening.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Nomsa Sekele said the two men had approached a group of employees in the Sentra around 18:30.
“The employees were hijacked of the company car. The two suspects took their cellphones, including an iPhone which was the company cellphone,” she said.
She said the employees alerted the car owner, who then managed to track the stolen iPhone.
“He managed to track the suspects through the iPhone. After going to where the vehicle was, on President Hoffman Road, he was confronted by the suspects who pointed a firearm at him,” she said.
The man retaliated by firing shots at the two hijackers, she said.
“They are both in hospital under police guard.”
She said a firearm and the stolen cellphones were recovered in the car.
A case of hijacking, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition were being investigated.
