Centurion gas thieves caught
Man caught on camera stealing gas arrested and found in possession of drugs.
A man suspected of stealing liquefied gas from StarGas store in Hennopspark has been caught.
André Vorster, chairman of the Wierdabrug CPF, said patrollers saw the man in Wierda Park on Thursday.
“Our patrollers notified the Tshwane metro police who responded quickly.”
The CPF and metro police tracked the man to a house in Wierda Park. He and an accomplice were arrested and drugs were also recovered.
Vorster urged anyone with more information to get in touch with the Wierdabrug police station on 012-685-0015.
StarGas owner Andrea Casillo has praised efforts of the CPF and metro police.
“A big thank you from StarGas has to go to the Wierdabrug sector 3 CPF and metro police for helping catch a criminal to take him off the streets. Luckily we haven’t had more thefts since.”
The man was caught on camera stealing a gas cylinder from the store last Tuesday afternoon.
He walked into the store and asked for a business card before leaving and grabbing a gas cylinder on his way out.
He drove away in a Hyundai i20. The car has also been repossessed by the bank.
This was the second time in a just over a month that someone was caught on camera stealing gas in Pretoria.
On 17 August at 04:30 two men stole gas cylinders from the Caltex filling station in Constantia Park. They are yet to be arrested.
The Tshwane metro police have not commented on the StarGas arrest yet.
