Shot burglar hunted down by persistent security guard
A man has been wounded after he attempted to stab an ADT security officer.
A man is under strict police guard in hospital after he was shot twice in a clash with an ADT security officer.
Maurice Malan, community development manager at ADT, said this happened in the early hours of Saturday morning.
“At 02:11 ADT reaction officer Isaac Mokwana responded to an alarm at a house in Waterkloof Heights. When he arrived the client cancelled the alarm and said everything was in order,” said Malan.
Five minutes later, at 02:16 the owner of the house called ADT again and reported “strange activity”.
“While inspecting the property, Mokwana noticed a shadowy figure lurking behind a tree. Mokwana pulled out his firearm to protect himself.”
All of a sudden the man ran out from behind the tree and charged at Mokwana with a large kitchen knife.
Malan said Mokwana warned the man to drop the knife but he kept charging. Mokwana discharged two rounds into the man’s chest.
This failed to stop the man in his tracks.
He dropped the knife, climbed on a dustbin and pulled himself over a high, barb-wired and electrified wall and fell into the neighbour’s yard.
Mokwana found the man lying unconscious and alerted the police, who took him to hospital
Brooklyn police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach confirmed that the man was alive and under police guard. An attempted housebreaking docket was opened.
