Murder accused VIP police officer denied bail
Presidential protection officer arrested for killing his wife and daughter was refused bail.
VIP protection police officer, Warrant Officer Benedict Peloeole (46) was not granted bail by the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) spokesperson, Grace Langa said the officer would appear in court again on 9 October following further investigations.
Peloeole was arrested for the alleged murder of his wife and daughter.
“The officer was not granted bail and still remains in police custody until his next court appearance,” said Langa.
Langa said the IPID investigation was continuing.
Peloeole apparently shot dead his 42-year-old wife and 23-year-old daughter at their home in Westview, west of Pretoria two weeks ago.
He was arrested after he reported the shooting to the Pretoria West police.
His 17-year-old son witnessed the murder and was extremely traumatised, said Langa during Peloeole first court appearance.
The boy was receiving therapy and was in the care of other family members.
Langa said on the day of the shooting, Peloeole and his wife apparently had an argument before he left home for a cousin’s funeral.
“When the officer returned home that evening, he is said to have asked his wife to cook for him. While she was cooking, he apparently went to another room to fetch the firearm and then shot his wife and daughter,” said Langa.
“He allegedly locked the pistol back in the safe and then took his 17-year-old son and his cousin to neighbours.”
Langa said the officer’s son would obviously be one of the key witnesses to testify as he was present during the shooting.
