Bullets fly as cops corner criminals
Police arrested two wanted men after bullets flew during a chase in Midrand on Wednesday.
Police caught two wanted men in Midrand on Wednesday after a chase and a shootout in Noordwyk.
Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng said the two were suspected of having been involved in several crimes.
Police first spotted one of them in Sagewood Boulevard, driving a silver Ford ST.
“When he saw the police, he fired shots at them.”
He said police returned fire and the man was cornered after trying to flee.
“The Gauteng police force, which included both the flying squad and the crime intelligence division, seized a bag with a pistol and an R5 rifle which the culprit used to shoot at the police.”
No injuries were reported.
Police believed the Ford might have been stolen, but Mofokeng said investigations were ongoing.
The arrested man would appear in the Midrand Magistrate’s Court next week.
Mofokeng could not confirm claims on social media that about 100 rounds were fired.
Police then visited another townhouse complex in search of the second man.
He was caught with suspected stolen vehicles in his possession, a BMW and a Volkswagen Amarok.
The man would also appear in court next week.
Mofokeng urged residents to assist police in catching criminals.
“Those with information should contact crime stop on 0860 10111 or SMS crime line 32211.”
