Dead woman to be laid to rest after her body was in morgue for 2 weeks
A young woman recently found dead in Eersterust will be buried on Saturday.
The body of Priscilla “Poppie” Japhta (28) was discovered in a stream in Nantes about two weeks ago. She was identified earlier in the week.
Her aunt and foster mother Margarette Jacobs said on Listen Luister Eersterust’s Facebook page that Japhta’s body was identified by her father Michael Miles.
“At first we thought she was somewhere but we looked for her until one of the detectives took Miles in for questioning about Japhta’s whereabouts,” Jacobs said.
Police took Miles to the government morgue on Monday to identify his daughter’s body.
Jacobs complained that the police had not done enough to identify her earlier, saying: “Her body was in the mortuary for too long.”
Japhta’s mother was murdered when the child was two years old.
Jacobs said the family was saddened by the young woman’s death, but was pleased that detectives were questioning more people about her murder.
She described her niece as a happy person who had aspirations to become a social worker. She would have turned 28 on Tuesday, a day after her body was identified by her father.
Police spokesperson Sam Shibambo said the murder investigation was continuing.
Japhta’s funeral service on Saturday is at House number 574 Bronberg in Nantes. Her body arrives at 06:00 and the service will start an hour later.
