Man killed outside popular nightclub
23-year-old stabbed and killed outside nightclub.
A Johannesburg man was stabbed to death outside the popular Ty’s nightclub in Menlyn Piazza, shortly after midnight on Thursday morning. Shane Boruchowitz (23) died in his brother’s arms, allegedly after a scuffle with bouncers outside the club.
Gene Kotton, a private investigator has been appointed by the family to help police investigate Shane’s murder. Kotton said Shane Boruchowitz and his brother had become embroiled in a scuffle with two other men outside the club after accidentally bumping into them.
Two bouncers, allegedly from Ty’s nightclub, then ran out and intervened. Kotton said one of the burly bouncers then apparently pulled out a knife and stabbed Shane Boruchowitz twice. He fell and hit his head hard on the ground.
Boruchowitz’s brother, fearing for his own life ran out into the parking lot of the Piazza. According to Kotton the brother was then chased by the same knife-wielding bouncer.
“The brother ran and hid under a car of the Land Rover dealership across the road and phoned his father saying there were men trying to kill them,” said Kotton.
Shane’s father, Colin, rushed to Pretoria from Johannesburg and alerted Kotton and paramedics.
Shane died in his brother’s arms shortly after the brother returned to his aid.
Kotton said the death certificate stated that Boruchowitz did not die from the stab wound, but from the head injury which he sustained when he fell down.
When Rekord contacted Jannie Oosthuizen on Thursday, he said “No, we do not know of a bouncer involved. We heard it was a street kid that attacked somebody but rather let the police handle it.”
When Rekord contacted Oosthuizen again on Friday morning, he expressed his shock at the murder.
“This is not acceptable. We have always prided ourselves on the safety of our patrons,” said Oosthuizen.
“We will co-operate with the police investigation in any way we can.”
He also sent his condolences to the family.
Shane’s funeral was scheduled Friday morning (25 September), shortly after his death as per Jewish tradition.
Police spokesperson Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng confirmed Brooklyn police were investigating a case of murder.
A few months ago, a young woman was also severly assaulted at Menlyn Piazza.
