Man arrested in connection with Ty’s nightclub stabbing
A man linked to the murder of Shane Boruchowitz (23) at Ty's nightclub in the early hours of Thursday morning has been arrested.
A 38-year-old man was arrested on Friday evening, following a stabbing incident outside Ty’s nightclub in Menlyn in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Police spokesperson Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng confirmed on Saturday a man had been arrested in connection with the murder of 23-year-old Shane Boruchowitz on Thursday.
Mofokeng said the man was scheduled to appear in the Pretoria Regional Court on Monday.
He could not confirm whether the man was the bouncer suspected of stabbing Boruchowitz twice in the chest before the 23-year-old collapsed.
Private investigator Gene Kotton had been appointed by the family to assist police investigate the death of Boruchowitz. Kotton said Boruchowitz and his brother were embroiled in a scuffle on Thursday morning with two other men outside the club after accidentally bumping into them.
Two bouncers, allegedly from Ty’s nightclub intervened. Kotton said one of the burly bouncers apparently pulled a knife and stabbed Boruchowitz twice. The 23-year-old fell to the ground, hitting his head on the ground as he went down.
Jannie Oosthuizen, owner of Ty’s nightclub said on Friday morning the incident was unacceptable.
“We have always prided ourselves on the safety of our patrons. We will cooperate with the police investigation in any way we can.”
Boruchowitz was laid to rest on Friday shortly after his death, as per Jewish custom.
