Actress nabbed at airport with drugs worth millions

A South African actress was arrested at the OR Tambo International Airport after 15.4kg of crystal meth was found in her bags.

A South African actress was arrested at the OR Tambo International Airport after being found in possession of crystal meth valued at R4.6 million, the SA Revenue Service (Sars) said.

The actress, who cannot be named as she has not yet pleaded in court, was arrested on Sunday after she arrived from Abu Dhabi.

She was stopped by Customs officials after luggage scanners showed she had suspicious items in one of her bags, Sars said in a statement.

Sars said officials discovered 15 parcels wrapped in carbon/foil-like material weighing in at 15.4kg.

“Tests confirmed the substance was ephedrine, which is the main ingredient for crystal meth.

“This is a significant seizure by Sars customs who do daily inspections in an effort to foil the smuggling of goods,” said Sars.
