Winterveld man arrested in posession of unlicensed firearm, stolen vehicle
Police found a stolen vehicle, unlicensed firearm and live ammunition while searching a house after getting a tip-off from the public.
Winterveld police northwest of Pretoria have arrested a 28-year old man for possession of a stolen motor vehicle, unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Spokesperson Constable Pertunia Shabangu said police acted on a tip-off about a man who might have been in possession of a stolen vehicle.
“On arrival, our team searched the house and recovered a firearm with the serial number filed off,” she said.
Three rounds of live ammunition were also found hidden under a couch in the lounge.
“When the team searched the garage, they discovered a white Toyota Hilux that was stolen in Soshanguve on Tuesday.”
A Ford engine that was reported stolen at Greenwood Park was also found in one of the bedrooms.
The man will appear in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court soon.
