Police warn motorists to be wary of smash-and-grabs
Wierdabrug police issue safety tips against theft from motor vehicles.

The Wierdabrug police have made an urgent appeal to the public to be security conscious and refrain from leaving valuable items in view while parked at shopping malls.
Spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma said items such as laptops, cellphones, and tablets must be locked in the boot.
“This is to prevent smash and grabs and theft out of motor vehicles at shopping malls,” said Huma
“When you are at home, always lock your vehicle and activate any alarm system.
“When walking away from your vehicle [after parking] at a shopping mall, always make sure the doors are looked to combat the use of car jamming devices,” Huma said.
“When driving with car windows open, please make sure cellphones and other devices are not in easy to reach areas for anyone to grab while you are stopped at a traffic light.”
Huma said police had noticed a hike in theft out of motor vehicles.
