Junior 13’s murder still a mystery

The men that brutally murdered Mamelodi's crime kingpin are still at large, police said.

Police are still searching for three men who shot and killed Mamelodi crime kingpin ‘Junior 13’ earlier this month.

The most-wanted criminal, whose real name is Monare Ignatius Selokwane, was killed in Mamelodi on 8 November while sitting in a car with friends.

The criminal mastermind was on a street corner when he was approached by another car. Three men fired several shots at Selokwane. He died at the scene. His friends fled unharmed.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said no arrests have been made.

“We are still looking for the three men that were travelling in that vehicle,” he said.

Selokwane was suspected of involvement in several bank robberies and masterminding one of the most elaborate bank robberies in the country when he made off with over R26 million in 2003.

Police only retrieved R1.5 million of that stolen loot.
