UPDATE: Identikit of teenager’s killer released

Police have released the identikit of the man suspected to be involved in the Pretoria girl’s murder in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Margate police have released the identikit of the man apparently responsible for killing a Centurion girl in KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday.

Shayleen van Zanten (15), a pupil at Hoërskool Eldoraigne, was on holiday in Trafalgar when she was stabbed after refusing to surrender her cellphone

The teenager was on holiday with her father and friends when this happened.

The wanted man was reportedly wearing a red T-shirt with knee-length black pants and oversize slops. He is short and between 25-30 years old.

The man spoke broken English.

The Trafalgar CPF has reportedly offered an R18 000 reward for information leading to the successful conviction of the man. The police also posted a reward.

KZN provincial police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said Van Zanten and her friends were taking a walk when they noticed a man walking towards them.

“Around 19:30 on Wednesday, a girl was stabbed by an unknown man who demanded her cellphone while they were taking a walk in Falke Land Road, Trafalgar.”

The girls had turned back to their beach house, but the man blocked Van Zanten at the entrance gate. She was stabbed in the chest, groin and arm.

Van Zanten was taken to the hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.
