NEWSFLASH: Woman shot dead by lover
Police are searching for a man who shot and killed his lover.
A 43-year-old man shot dead his girlfriend near Kloofsig railway station in Lyttelton on Tuesday morning.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Hero Gumbu said the murder appeared to be related to an episode of domestic violence.
“A man waited in the bushes near Kloofsig station for his girlfriend, a 43-year-old woman, to get off the train,” he said.
The murdered woman was walking with a friend as her boyfriend approached them.
“The man shot his girlfriend in the upper body. Her lady friend ran away and later gave the police an eye-witness account,” Gumbu said.
Eight empty shells were found on the scene.
Gumbu said the man was still armed with a 9mm pistol. He was believed to have run to the Groenkloof Nature Reserve.
Police had opened a murder docket.
