Police visibility at shopping malls lauded
Police visibility at malls has residents at ease while they do their last-minute Christmas shopping.
Police visibility at shopping malls has impressed Pretoria residents as petty crimes at these spots are showing a decline.
Police students have been deployed during the festive season to beef up the fight against crime at malls.
Orange Fox Security’s spokesperson Vanessa Jacobs said residents and their children were happy with the presence of the police.
“Children love having the police students around and they are a pleasure to work with.”
Jacobs said at Centurion mall one of the students caught a man who had stolen underwear from a shop.
“The man was leaving the store when one of the students saw him and searched him. He found stolen underwear on the man. The thief was arrested and the items were given back to the store.”
Jacobs said the visibility of the police had led to less loitering around the malls and petty crimes had decreased.
“The officers are a good help. This initiative is about visible policing and curtailing crime during the festive season.”
About 20 police students had been deployed to be active around malls.
Residents have thanked the SA Police Service and the metro police on Facebook for playing such a major part in reducing crime in areas where they do their shopping.
