UPDATE: Groenkloof killer on the run

Police are still searching for the man who shot and killed his girlfriend on Tuesday.

Police were on Thursday still searching for a man who shot dead his girlfriend in Kloofsig near Groenkloof earlier this week.

The 43-year-ol man appeared to have vanished in thin air after he killed his girlfriend near Kloofsig railway station on Tuesday, said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Hero Gumbu.

The murder appeared to have been related to an episode of domestic violence.

“A man waited in bushes near Kloofsig station for his girlfriend, a 43-year-old woman, to get off the train,” he said.

The murdered woman was walking with a friend as her boyfriend approached them.

“The man shot his girlfriend in the upper body. Her lady friend ran away and later gave the police an eye-witness account,” Gumbu said.

Eight empty shells were found on the scene.

Gumbu said the man, who ran to the Groenkloof Nature Reserve, was armed with a 9mm pistol.
