Two to appear in court after police officer’s murder

The two hijack and murder-suspects arrested in connection with Captain Kenneth Poortman's death, will appear in court tomorrow.

Two suspects arrested in connection with the hijack and murder of Captain Kenneth Poortman will appear in the Pretoria North Magistrate Court on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini confirmed the two accused would appear in court at 15:00.

The two were arrested after Poortman’s body was discovered on Sunday near the Mabopane highway.

“Investigations led to the arrests in Winterveld,” Dlamini told Rekord on Sunday.
Poortman’s vehicle as well as a firearm were recovered during the arrest.

Poortman worked in the logistics department of the Silverton police station.

Poortman’s wife, police spokesperson Sergeant Ann Poortman learned of her husband’s death reportedly after arriving on the scene to gather information for the media.

Colleagues and concerned citizens shared their condolences with the Poortman family on social media.
