Two men linked to the State Security Agency burglary in Pretoria during the Christmas weekend have been arrested.
Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the Hawks made the breakthrough of arresting two of the burglars.
He said one of the men was arrested on Tuesday and the other on Thursday.
Mulaudzi, however, said more investigations would follow even though the two were in custody.
“We are still pursuing the other suspects,” said Mulaudzi.
He said the two burglars would appear at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
An estimated R50 million worth of foreign currency was stolen from the State Agency’s headquarters in Pretoria over the Christmas weekend.
The Hawks offered a reward for any information after the gang stole the currency from the State Security Agency.
A hooded man was seen on CCTV footage walking down the office corridor on the date of the burglary.
Mulaudzi said the group of men entered the premises on Boxing Day and stole money from a safe before fleeing.
The crime was only discovered the following day, he said.
“Since that time, the Hawks have made significant investigative progress. They however still seek the public’s assistance for any information regarding the robbery.”
Anyone with information should contact Colonel Tolie Vreugdengburg on 082-451-7226 or Colonel Makasela Nkuna on 082-565-8506.
“All information will be handled with the strictest of confidence if it can aid in the apprehension of these dangerous criminals.
