Four caught after Centurion chase

Police and reaction security firms corner fleeing minibus after chase, in Eldoraigne, Centurion on Monday afternoon.

Shots fired during a high-speed chase in Centurion culminated in the arrest of four men on Monday.

Police caught the group when their minibus veered out of control in Wierda Road in Eldoraigne in the afternoon.

Wierdabrug spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma said members of private security firms took part in the pursuit.

Police noticed the minibus in central Pretoria, where men were loading items into the vehicle.

She said the minibus sped off and the police gave chase as it headed for Centurion along Old Johannesburg Road. It turned into Wierda Road before coming to a standstill.

She said two of the four men needed medical attention and were taken to hospital.

OrangeFox spokesperson Vanessa Jacobs said she and her unit were almost hit by the speeding vehicle on Old Johannesburg Road. They joined the pursuit.

She said the minibus filled with cigarettes was led by a speeding BMW.

“Shots were being fired during the high speed pursuit between the police unit and the BMW vehicle,” Jacobs said.

She said the chase ended when the minibus somehow went out of control. The BMW sped away.

Jacobs said Emergency Medical Services (EMS), OrangeFox and Critical Life Assist (CLA) attended to the injured men.

“The minibus was filled with cigarettes,” said Jacobs.
