After blowing and throwing his bones, traditional healer Solly Mathebula (38) of Mamelodi East Extension 4 said he is troubled at what 2016 has in store for the people of Mamelodi.
He predicted that this would be a tough year, not only for residents of Mamelodi, but for the whole country.
The famous traditional healer known as Baba Mahlasela recently made headlines for training young white sangoma Kyle Todd.
He told Rekord South Africa would face its worst economic downturn this year.
The bones were telling him that food and petrol prices would skyrocket this year.
“More girls will disappear from Mamelodi because there is a group abducting them for evil … They use their body parts in ‘get rich quick’ potions,” said Baba Mahlasela.
Asked about the upcoming local elections, he said most of the youth would not vote because they felt the government was failing them.
“About 80% of the people won’t vote because of the empty promises made by the government and the ruling party will lose more votes,” said Mahlasela.
The sangoma described local councillors as lazy, saying this was why the ruling party would lose many votes in the local poll.
“We are going to experience more protest in Mamelodi because of service delivery and it goes back to the lazy councillors. I think its time the mayor concentrated more on Mamelodi, especially service delivery,” he said.
Turning to sport, Baba Mahlasela said the Proteas would not have a good year because of the internal politics that had caused Hashim Amla to step down as the Test captain.
Another revelation from his bones was that taxi violence would continue in Mamelodi because no agreement had been reached between rival groups.
“Crime would also rise because of drug abuse. The youth of Mamelodi need to be actively involved in sports. The good thing is that there is a lot of talent but it was not being utilised or noticed because of facilities such as HM Pitje Stadium not being usable.
We need sports facilities to help keep the youth away from drugs, crime, and most importantly avoid teenage pregnancies.
“Our government will have to come up with activities that will keep the youth busy,” he said.
The bones also told him about good things to come to Mamelodi and the rest of the country, but he said this would only happen towards the end of the year.
South Africa would get its first women president and this would be Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma. She would be voted into the office because of her experience, said Mahlasela.
He noted that racism was still rife in South Africa.
“It is because our ancestors are not at peace. South Africans need a cleansing ceremony to make peace with ancestors,” he said.
“Our leaders, the chiefs and President Jacob Zuma need to slaughter cows and take the sjamboks, spears and guns and bury them in the mountain. This will end racism.”
Baba Mahlasela has been a practising sangoma for the past 20 years.
