The Soshanguve campuses of the Tshwane University of Technology remained closed for academic activity on Tuesday as student protests continued.
Sthembiso Ka Shandu, deputy president of the TUT Soshanguve student representative council (SRC), said the protest would remain peaceful.
Academic activity would not resume until vice chancellor, professor Lourens van Staden and management had met student leaders, her said.
“The strike is not going to end until management has come to us students and leaders of the strike,” he said.
He called on students not to vacate their residences and to remain calm.
“No student will be forced by anyone to leave their residence. They should not be intimated by anyone.”
Cabanga Maluleke, regional secretary of SA student congress, said they (student leaders) were mobilising students to join a mass meeting at the Soshanguve north campus on Tuesday.
“We are protesting peacefully, no one will be hurt we just want to meet and address students on issues regarding registration, outstanding fees, accommodation and other issues,” he said.
TUT spokesperson Willa de Ruyter reportedly confirmed earlier on Tuesday that the campuses were closed.
