Nedbank round of 16 this weekend

All three Pretoria sides still in the Nedbank Cup.

Following Bafana Bafana’s disastrous 2017 Afcon campaign, local football once again takes centre stage.

The Nedbank Cup round of 16 will give us another Tshwane derby as Supersport United take on Amatuks next Tuesday.

It will be the third meeting between the two this season.

Both teams have struggled this season, and a Nedbank triumph will rejuvenate the players ahead of next season.

Mamelodi Sundowns welcome unknown Mbombela United on Saturday, to the Lucas Moripe stadium.

Pitso Mosimane’s Sundowns had to battle past Highlanders FC in the last 32 but another tough encounter awaits as they look for a place in the quarter finals.

The Brazilians are eyeing a treble after winning the Telkom Knockout in December, and the league theirs to lose.

In international football, the national team are all but out of the 2017 African Cup of Nations in Gabon after drawing 0-0 with Cameroon on Tuesday night.

Bafana Bafana are now on three points after four games and it will be impossible for them to finish top of the group.

Coach Shakes Mashaba admitted that Bafana won’t be in Gabon next year.

“I don’t see us qualifying but the boys tried.”

The focus now shifts to the road to Russia 2018.
