Newsflash: Two woman escape attack in nature reserve
Two women escaped a near rape experience when two men robbed them at the Groenkloof Nature Researve.

Two women were almost raped at Groenkloof Nature Reserve at the weekend.
Saloshani Pather sent a message on social media claiming that she and her partner were attacked in the reserve on Sunday around 15:00.
Pather said she and her friend Saloshni Govender were hiking when two men stopped them.
Pather said the men held them at knifepoint and took their cellphones.
“One man pushed me to the ground and pinned me down,” said Pather.
She said the other man had a solid grip on her friend and had began touching her indecently.
Pather said she and her friend shouted so much that she lost her voice.
As she prayed out loud, the men began to pull back.
“Somehow the one man who was over me pulled back and they ran off taking my takkies off at the same time, “Pather said.
The two women walked back in their socks to seek help.
Pather said the horrifying part was that this was not the first attack this nature in the reserve.
“No one warns hikers to be aware of these muggings and rapes, which have happened often,” she said.
“We pay a fee at the reserve, assuming it has safety measures. The Rangers who drove us around after the attack in the reserve said the crimes were committed by homeless people living under a bridge. I have done this hike many times with a friends, alone and with my children, but I will never do it again.”
Sunnyside police Sergeant Asnath Malatsi said no charges were laid at the station. She said it was possible that the victims were still to report the attack.
A third woman, who was apparently reserve at the time of the attack, gave Rekord more details on what happened.
Joanne Ekron said the two targets were about 2km into their hike when they were accosted.
She expressed outrage at such events happening in a nature reserve, saying safety measures should be in place.
“Looking at all the related articles on google by only typing “Groenkloof nature reserve attacks” it’s clear that this isn’t a new trend,” said Ekron.
A representative at the reserve who asked to remain anonymous said he had heard of an episode in the reserve and management was investigating.
