No more potholes, sinkholes for Tshwane residents

Tshwane metro Kgosientso Ramokgopa got up and did something about potholes in Laudium in Operation Kuka Maoto.

Headaches caused by potholes and sinkholes are a thing of a past…At least for residents of Laudium.

This after the mayor, Kgosientso Ramokgopa, and his team, visited the area on Monday to patch up potholes in Operation Kuka Maoto following complaints by residents a few months ago.

Ramokgopa wrote on his Twitter account: “This is our 3rd operation in Laudium. Service delivery does not stop because there are elections coming.”

Ramokgopa and his team assisted the aggrieved Laudium residents patch up the affected areas.

Kuka maoto, means get up and do something, and the operation promises to address residents’ complaints.

The metro said the operation would deal with critical backlogs relating to urban management problems as raised by residents.

“The operation is aimed at comprehensively improving the quality of service by addressing backlogs in urban management with a particular focus to critical and stressed wards across the city’s seven regions,” said the metro.

“Operation Kuka Maoto was implemented with the high level of intensity to improve the quality of service delivery to communities, and in the process instil a sense of urgency and public activism amongst city officials.

“It has accelerated service delivery in [parts] of the metro since its launch in March.”

Resident Sunivasan Pillay said: “I am thankful to the mayor and the team for coming to close the sinkhole which was starting to put us all in great risk especially the children as they play near it.”

Motorist, Lulama Naidoo: “Even though it took them a long time to attend to our problem, I can drive without the thought of causing harm to my car as the potholes are now gone.”

Overgrow grass was also cut.

The mayor was praised by Twitter users for attending to the complaints.
