Tshwane encourages people to pay

Tshwane metro on a campaign to encourage residents to pay their municipal bills.

The Tshwane metro is on a blitz into communities to promote the ‘It’s my responsibility’ campaign to echo mayor Kgosientso Ramakgopa’s plea to residents to pay their municipal bills.

Metro representatives were recently at the Soshanguve Crossing shopping centre in Block L, and plans were afoot to take the campaign to Hammanskraal and Mabopane by July.

“The aim is to bring services to the people at grassroots because lots of people sometimes feel they don’t get adequate assistance in metro offices,” said Tshwane metro revenue officer, Theo Edwards.

Edwards said the campaign was temporary but the council planned to make it permanent.

“We [representatives during the campaign] deal with many types of complaints concerning prepaid [electricity], potholes, street lights,” said Edwards

Campaign supervisor, Thato Molekana said: “The campaign goes into communities and educates people about municipal services offered by the Tshwane metro.”

She said people were also given information about how to reduce their consumption and benefit from rebates offered by the metro.

A Soshanguve Block L resident, Albert Mtileni, said encouraging residents to pay their dues was a great idea.

Molekana said residents appreciated the campaign and indicated they wished it had started a long time ago.

She added that residents complained that previously nobody assisted when they did not know what to do.
