A musical and culinary journey of note
Stage legend Helena Hettema kept her audience transfixed with yet another amazing performance at the award-winning Hemingway’s Restaurant at Leriba Hotel and Spa.
It was a cultural journey starting at an intimate French café in Paris, moving to a pebbled beach at Brighton, a coffee shop in Italy, a small town in South Africa and to the windy flat landscape of Flanders.
It was a culinary taste sensation with steak tartare, succulent lamb shank and dreamy crème brulee accompanied by the best wines available.
It was an evening of entertainment with legend Helena Hettema at the five star Hemingway’s Restaurant at Leriba Lodge in Centurion.
With the joy le verve she is known for and a voice that transports the listener to heavenly destinations, Hettema on Thursday, had the audience on their feet, begging for more.
The cabaret and stage sensation’s show – performed and choreographed to suit the ambiance of Hemingway’s perfectly – offered something of everything. The audience was treated by the haunting songs by the Sparrow of Paris, Edith Piaff, to the funky sounds of Karen Zoid and the touching music of Jacques Brel to beautiful songs Hettema had written herself.
The audience became part of the performance with Hettema getting up close and personal by moving among the tables and even dancing with a few lucky diners. The beautiful Hettema also shared details of her fascinating career between songs which created an intimacy not often experienced.
Hemingway’s’ executive chef, Lindes de Jager as always prepared a delightful three-course meal while attentive serving staff were at hand to meet every need of the diners. On special request, De Jager also went out of his way to meet the needs of a vegetarian diner by preparing, among other courses, a risotto to die for.
Hettema’s performance was one of three shows the much-loved artist will perform at Hemingway’s this year. She will again be on stage at the award-winning restaurant on 9 June and 4 August.
