Mamelodi pastor retires after 40 years of ministry

Pastor retires after four decades, but will continue serving his community.

Pastor Chummy Sydney Ntuli is retiring after 40 years of joyful ministry at the Mamelodi International Assemblies of God, and will historically be succeeded by a female pastor.

Pastor Pule Ndlala will take over the baton on 7 May, with her first sermon delivered from 09:00.

Ntuli joined the ministry 1977, and has over the years, brought the church a wealth of experience and the church grew under his guidance.

He even started the first ever day care centre in Mamelodi called Osizweni.

Since, the church has expanded to include an after-school care, feeding scheme, bakery and a skills development centre.

Ntuli also ministered to inmates in the Zonderwater and Bavianspooort prisons and also assisted with counselling.

Ntuli said he retired because of physical strength not spiritual.

“I am retiring as a pastor but will be helping on the board of elders,” said Ntuli.

Ntuli was said to have played a crucial role in the fight against apartheid in Mamelodi by providing refuge to freedom fighters.

“My family has been a pillar of strength and has supported me throughout my work for God, especially my late wife Margaret Madikapi who passed on in 2012,” said Ntuli.

Ndlala, who had been Ntuli’s assistant for a few years, said she had big shoes to fill, but was up for the challenge.

The church has more than 1000 members.
