Central police arrest 22

Police searched over 1000 people and arrested 22 for various crimes during Operation Siyabangena in the CBD at the weekend.

An anti-crime swoop in central Pretoria saw 22 people being arrested at the weekend for various crimes.

More than 1000 were searched in the raid dubbed Operation Siyabangena, said central police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe.

This was a joint initiative between the police, the metro police, the Passenger rail agency of SA and the rapid rail police unit.

“The operation was a show of force,” said Selepe.

Nineteen people were caught with narcotics in their possession. Two illegal immigrationts were arrested and another man was found with stolen goods.

A total of 115 traffic fines to the value of R90 750 were issued and 1 258 people and 466 vehicles were searched at various roadblocks.

“The operation was a success judging by the positive response from the community. They were happy to see the city ‘blue’ with with police working hand in hand,” Selepe said.
